How to use the fitness centre

The Fitness Centre includes cardio machines, strength equipment, free weights, and accessories. Proper and safe use of equipment is required to use the Fitness Centre.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Part 1: Arrival and Access
Step 1: Bring your Salto card to the Fitness Centre.
Step 2: Go to a Salto Hotspot, tap your Salto card, and wait for the green light to blink. This confirms your card is ready.
Step 3: Tap the Salto card again to unlock and open the door as you enter the Fitness Centre.
Step 4: Store personal belongings in a locker or designated area.
Part 2: Equipment Usage & Safety
Step 5: Select the equipment appropriate for your workout plan.
Step 6: Read the instructional label and follow posted signs for each machine or station.
Step 7: Adjust seats, handles, or resistance before starting.
Step 8: Test movements slowly before increasing weight or speed.
Step 9: Avoid exceeding machine limits or using equipment incorrectly.
Step 10: Report any unsafe or damaged equipment to staff immediately.
Part 3: Departure and Cleanup
Step 11: Rack all weights and return mats, bands, and accessories to their assigned areas after use.
Step 12: Wipe down and sanitize all equipment after use.
Step 13: Leave the space clean and collect all personal items before exiting.

Q1: Do I need to check in with the Fitness Centre staff every time I visit?
A1: There is a sign-in sheet you will complete each time you use the Fitness Centre.
Q2: What if my card does not open the door?
A2: Activate your Salto card at a Campus hot spot or visit your Campus Services for re-activation (A300 in Vernon, PL133 in Penticton).
Q3: Can I use the gymnasium or fitness Centre outside of scheduled hours?
A3: No, the gymnasium and fitness Centre are only available during scheduled hours.

A4: No, the lockers are one-day use lockers. Locks will be cut if left overnight.

A5: Treadmills, rowers, spin bikes, ellipticals, stair master, cable machines, squat racks, benches, dumbbells, barbells, mats, TRX, medicine balls, Bosu balls, and more accessories. Please note that equipment varies by campus.
Q6: Can I bring my own equipment?
A6: Yes, small items like straps, gloves, and belts are allowed.
