OC’s new LMS: what’s changing, when it’s happening, and how we’ll support you.
Okanagan College is excited to announce that we are transitioning from Moodle to D2L Brightspace as our new Learning Management System (LMS). This change supports the College’s commitment to creating an exceptional, accessible, and technology-enhanced learning environment.
Beginning in Fall 2026, Brightspace will become Okanagan College’s official LMS, replacing Moodle.
This transition follows a comprehensive procurement and evaluation process involving educators, IT, and Teaching & Learning Innovations (TLI). Brightspace was selected for its positive impact on learners, stronger accessibility features, platform stability, and enhanced teaching tools.

When logging into Brightspace Community for the first time you will need to create an account using your Okanagan College email as well as selecting Higher Education searching for 'okanagancollege' under the Segment section of the account setup.
Brightspace is currently available to educators and staff participating in the implementation and soft launch period at Okanagan College.

Quizzes & exams
Review your full exam and every question, including all questions in randomized pools. Check answers, marks, images, permitted resources, timing and individual accommodations, and offer an ungraded practice quiz.
November 1 reminder
B.C. will not turn clocks back on November 1, 2026. Check deadlines on or after this date and your computer and Brightspace time zone settings both before and after November 1. Keep browsers and software up to date. If deadlines need correcting, use Manage Dates to shift selected dates forward or backward by one hour, as needed, then confirm the results.
Grades & feedback
Organize grade items and categories, remove unused items, reorder assessments and adjust weights.

Configure the Banner Grades scheme, review final grades and export them to Banner.
Course content
Add a download link to a content page so learners can open and work with the original spreadsheet.

Remove the association between a quiz or assignment and its grade item before deleting it.

Email your whole class, selected learners or students who have not submitted an assignment.

Randomly select questions from a larger collection to give learners different versions of a quiz.
The course migration plan includes migration guidelines, and support options such as instructional design assistance.
Educators will be notified via email, when their courses are ready for review in Brightspace.
We anticipate all fall courses to be available in Brightspace by the end of June, at the latest.
Preparation time will vary by course. Courses with more complex instructional design or extensive question banks may take longer to prepare, while most course materials and assignment details transfer well to Brightspace and will need minimal updates.

Yes—during the transition period. Access to past courses and content will be provided until final decommissioning, which will be announced in advance.
Sandbox access is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with Brightspace, explore its features, and begin planning your courses. Please note that the Sandbox environment is separate from your course-specific shells and the course migration process.
Tools and features in Brightspace will be different from Moodle. The crosswalk helps you understand how they translate, highlighting where differences may occur so you can review your course or consult the Educational Technology team to explore new options.

The readiness checklist for educators identifies the migration process, available supports, and the actions educators should take to review, prepare, and successfully launch their courses in Brightspace.
Although the Distance Education pilot had a tight timeline, the rollout was a success thanks to the migration team and the enthusiastic cooperation of the Distance Education tutors. Comparing the Moodle and Brightspace courses, it is clear that Brightspace was the right choice. The migration allowed us to rethink course design, creating more efficient, accessible, and consistent learning environments, including a customized navigation bar for Distance Education. It has been inspiring to see the team unlock the potential of our new learning management system.
Transitioning to Brightspace was easier than I expected. With the support provided by the Teaching and Learning team and my course shells already migrated from Moodle, I found the platform intuitive and easy to use for both faculty and students.
I've enjoyed being able to personalize my content and get creative in a new space, and I still feel like there is so much more to explore. As with any transition, there were a few bumps along the way, but support was always available when needed, and there are plenty of online resources to help.
My distance education students also made the transition seamlessly. One of my favourite features has been the Quick Eval tools, which have made grading more organized, efficient, and manageable.
According to OC’s official project timeline, the transition to Brightspace is a multiphase project beginning January 19, 2026.
