Current Transcript Information – Okanagan College
Okanagan College
Okanagan College began in the early 1960’s as the B.C. Vocational School in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. In 1968 its name was changed to Okanagan College with the introduction of a full complement of academic and vocational programs. In 1989 Okanagan College began to offer third and fourth year university courses in co-operation with the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the University of Victoria (UVic). In 1992 Okanagan College was renamed Okanagan University College (OUC) offering joint degrees with UBC and UVic. In 1995 OUC was granted its own baccalaureate degrees and conferred its first degrees in 1998. On July 1, 2005, OUC evolved to become two new institutions, one of which is Okanagan College.
Okanagan College is the caretaker of OUC academic records. Students who were attending OUC and continued their studies at Okanagan College require transcripts from both institutions in order to provide a complete academic record.
Academic Standards
I. A student in a baccalaureate degree, associate degree, or two-year diploma program who achieves a semester grade average less than 55 percent is placed on Academic Probation.
II. A student must achieve a minimum graduating grade average of 60 percent to be eligible for graduation in an academic, developmental certificate or continuing studies program leading toward a certificate, diploma, associate degree or baccalaureate degree.
III. The minimum passing grade in a vocational or trades course is 70 percent.
IV. A minimum grade average of 70 percent is required for graduation in a vocational or trade program.
V. For each degree, associate degree, diploma or certificate program, the top 15% of the graduating students shall have the words "with distinction" annotated on their degree, associate degree, diploma or certificate, provided that they achieve a minimum cumulative grade average of 80%. This designation will also be recorded on the student's transcript.
Standardized Grading System
Okanagan College's standardized grading system uses final percent grades to determine semester and cumulative grade averages. The system applies to all courses, irrespective of program.
Grades for all courses, regardless of credit value, are based on a percentage system. The minimum and maximum grades for all courses will be 0 percent and 100 percent, respectively. Transcripts include a percentage grade for each course, along with the number of credits awarded for the course. The following categories will be used.
| Percent Grade | Letter Grade | Definition |
90-100 85-89 80-84 | A+ A A- | First Class |
76-79 72-75 68-71 | B+ B B- | Second Class |
64-67 60-63 55-59 | C+ C C- | Pass |
| 50-54 | D | Marginal Pass |
| 0-49 | F | Failure |
Campus (Column C)
Notations in column C indicate the primary campus of in-person study: K - Kelowna, P - Penticton, S - Salmon Arm, and V - Vernon. Distance education courses are labeled with a D. Prior learning assessment courses are labeled with an X.
Repeated Courses (Column R)
Repeated courses are labeled in the column headed with the letter R. The letters A or E indicate courses that are not counted towards program completion, while a blank or the letter I indicate courses that are counted towards program completion.
Grade Point Average
The grade point average is determined by multiplying the course credit value by the percent grade. The sum of the course points divided by the sum of course credits produces a grade average between 0 percent and 100 percent, inclusive.
