Connections round up, donations still being accepted
Okanagan College’s annual employee conference, Connections, recently wrapped on Aug. 24. The event was well-attended at each campus and hit a major milestone by fundraising more than $3,000 in support of student food security at each campus – and there is still time to donate to the cause.
This year’s Connections notably launched its first-ever silent auction and donation initiative to raise money for students. Employees donated items to the silent auction or donated funds directly. The money will be split between each campus’ student food bank, helping students have access to food throughout the year.
While the silent auction has officially closed the donation portion is still open and accepting monies until Friday, Sept. 3 at 4 p.m. The goal was to raise $5,000 and the Connections committee is encouraging the OC community to help reach that goal to support OC students.
Elder Welcome and Territorial Land Acknowledgement Video
Recently, Okanagan College spoke with Elders and Knowledge Sharers of the Syilx Okanagan and Secwepemc Nations to talk about the importance of the land. A moving video was shared, containing teachings and wisdom from Elders and Knowledge Sharers who talked about the importance of the land.
OC President Neil Fassina’s address
Neil helped the Connections committee kick off the event and welcome employees with a virtual discussion. He provided current updates, shared words of wisdom and announced an upcoming regular President’s AMA (ask me anything) Session that will be launched in the fall. Further details about the AMA sessions will follow shortly.
