Penticton campus housing building officially opens
The doors are officially open at Okanagan College’s newest campus housing facility, located on the Penticton campus.
The College held a celebration with community members and OC employees on Wednesday (Sept. 23), marking the completion of the project and the opening of the new, 101-room facility.
“Today marks a first for our Penticton campus: the opening of on-campus housing,” said Dr. Samantha Lenci, Okanagan College Provost and Vice President Academic. “With this building, every Okanagan College campus now offers students a place to live close to where they learn. In the past two years, we've celebrated new student housing openings in Kelowna, Vernon and Salmon Arm, and now it's Penticton's turn.”
Students are already living in the building which opened on time for the start of the Fall semester.
“We know students' lives don't always follow the traditional September-to-May calendar, so we've built in flexibility to support students in year-round programs, including many of our Trades and Health offerings, alongside our Arts, Business and Science & Technology students who typically need housing for the full school year,” said Lenci, who added the building is also for the larger community.
“We've worked with the City to have this building available when it is vacant, to support community initiatives, providing short-term housing when needed if students are not using it, part of our commitment to the communities in the South Okanagan.”
