Student registration system enhancements coming for summer term
After months of work, the Registrar’s Office is pleased to share that Banner 9 modules that allow for significant enhancements to the student registration system will go live for the summer term of 2023.
The self-registration system offers several noteworthy improvements to the user experience, including:
- Courses are clearly marked in terms of when they are offered, delivery style, whether there are seats available in the section, or how many people are on a wait list.
- “Plan ahead” feature that allows students to build timetables in advance of their registration date, and then submit that course list when registration is open to them.
- Robust search tool enabling users to search by level in addition to subject
- "Linked classes” feature flags when labs are required when a given course section is selected
- Automatic notification if the student is on probation or there is a hold on their account preventing registration
- Tuition fee calculator automatically provides costs once classes are added.
Current students have been engaged in the system build process with demonstrations along the way. To date, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Self-registration system changes will roll out for the summer term, which typically has fewer registrations. This will help identify any bugs that need to be ironed out in preparation for the Fall 2023 Term.
A series of webinars/demonstrations will be offered to employees in January, to ensure the OC community can support students during the transition. Stay tuned for details in the new year.
In the meantime, anyone with self-registration questions can contact Lianna Lillies at llillies@okanagan.bc.ca.
