Okanagan College, together with students from the OC Pride Community, is proud to host the second community Pride celebration at Okanagan College’s Kelowna campus on May 26 from 4 to 8 p.m.

The community is invited to the all-ages free event featuring performances from OC student, community and alumni drag performers including Jovian, Misty Demeanour, Freida Whales, The Muffin Man, Mr. ShellFish and Bummer.

“In these troubling times, it is an honour to create an event that allows for some inclusivity, community, and celebration,” said Jovian, a member of the OC student group the OC Pride Community and a performer taking part in the event.

The kick-off celebration at OC comes as Pride events are set to begin across the region and beyond. Kelowna Pride Week runs from May 31 to June 6.

Along with the performances, community groups including Kelowna Pride, Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society, Advocacy Canada, Free Parent Hugs and This Space will be on hand at Okanagan College during the event with information tables.

“Supporting a student-led Pride celebration reflects Okanagan College’s commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all,” said Delacey Tedesco, Associate Director, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion at Okanagan College. “When students take the lead in building spaces that celebrate diversity and belonging, it strengthens our entire campus community and helps ensure every learner feels seen, valued, and supported.”

The College is also working to highlight and support Pride events in other areas of the Okanagan Valley and Shuswap. OC will be at the main community Pride Festival in Kelowna on Saturday, June 6 and is a sponsor of Pride events across the region.

The community Pride kick-off celebration at Okanagan College is a free community event.
