Okanagan College is a thoughtful and caring community, as demonstrated by the response to the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice (EDISJ) Focus groups and thought exchange contributions in the last few months. As we move forward into the next chapter of EDISJ we are looking to invite those staff who feel inspired, and comfortable, to take on the role of EDISJ Ambassador for Okanagan College.

EDISJ Ambassadors will be responsible for contributing to 3 key roles:

  • Help develop a draft EDISJ vision and OC specific definitions of what Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice mean for our institution
  • Meet with various individuals and groups throughout the institution to gather input and feedback on the draft
  • Act as communicators to help disseminate information on the work of the Ambassador Group and gather input from departments/programs.

We will identify employees and students from as many different departments/programs as possible to contribute to our EDISJ efforts over the next 6-8 months. (Roughly until November 2022)

If you are interested in being an EDISJ Ambassador, or would like to recommend someone as a candidate for this role, please send us an email (edisj@okanagan.bc.ca) with the subject line: Ambassador.  An effort will be made to include all who are interested within the context of busy schedules. There will also be a focus on including Ambassadors from a range of departments and programs to ensure we are reflective of every aspect of our institution.

Currently scheduled training for Ambassadors, in the form of two remote three-hour sessions, will be held on Feb. 25 and March 4 from 9am to 12pm. Subsequent meeting times will be one hour in length and scheduled to accommodate as many volunteers as possible.

Thank you again for your interest in this important work.  We look forward to the next stage of this project!
