Okanagan College, in partnership with Lillooet Tribal Council, offered Early Childhood Education (ECE) courses through a blended format in Lillooet this past fall.
Nine students successfully completed the courses to make them eligible for the BC ECE Registry as ECE Assistants.
On December 14, 2023, Continuing Studies and Corporate Training representatives Cindy Meissner, Jill Headland and Tamara Elwood were honoured to attend the Student Celebration and provide Indigenous Stoles to each student (special thanks to OC’s Indigenous Services team for donating the stoles).
ECE instructor Sarah Badinski joined the celebration virtually and hosted a sharing circle in which students shared what they were most proud of or liked best about the program.
Continuing Studies and Corporate Training partnered with Health and Social Development's Early Childhood Education department to make this opportunity possible for members of the Lillooet Tribal Council communities.
Okanagan College has partnered with the Lillooet Tribal Council on several past projects over the last ten years and look forward to starting a Health Care Assistant Program with them in January 2024. The College's ECE and Continuing Studies teams are working with other Indigenous communities across the Okanagan Valley to offer similar programming.
