In memory of Jim McCormack

OC Remembers represents obituaries and celebrations of life for members of our community who have passed away.

This notice is published in memory of Jim McCormack, a long-time vocational instructor in the English Language (EL) department in Arts and Foundational Programs at the Kelowna campus.

Jim began his career at Okanagan University College in 1989. He retired from Okanagan College in 2014.

“We were deeply saddened to hear of Jim’s passing and send our condolences to his wife Sylvia and their family, and to all who are grieving his passing within the Okanagan College community. Jim was a dedicated instructor who made a positive impact in the lives of countless students over the more than 25 years he taught at the College,” Rob Huxtable, Dean of Arts and Foundational Programs.

“As well as his commitment to students, Jim was a BCGEU workplace steward and member of the negotiating committee. His insight and knowledge in this area was often sought out and appreciated. With a soft voice, Jim brought a calm perspective to department meetings and issues. Having lunch with him in the staff room (where he often had a can of tuna!) was a learning experience,” recalls Ardiss Mackie, Chair, English Language Department.

No Funeral Service will be held by Jim's request. A small gathering of family and close friends will take place at a later date.
