Colleagues,
The Okanagan College flag has been lowered at the Kelowna campus in memory of long-time Library Technician Erika Henfling.
Henfling began her career in Library Services at Okanagan College in 1970. Last year, she became the first employee ever to reach the remarkable milestone of 50 years of service with the College.
“Erika was an incredible human being and employee who demonstrated unparalleled loyalty and dedication to Okanagan College,” says Ross Tyner, Director of Library Services. “Those who had the pleasure to work with her will attest to her kindness, her attention to detail, her strong will, and her remarkable memory. She developed many lasting relationships with both co-workers and students, and in recent years took a particular interest in getting to know the international student employees with whom she worked.”
This fall, OC President Jim Hamilton bestowed upon Henfling the President’s Award at the College’s annual Employee Excellence awards, in recognition of her outstanding service.
“It was always obvious in speaking with Erika that she took tremendous pride in and was deeply committed to her work, much of which was behind the scenes, to make our library services and systems better for students and her fellow employees,” said President Hamilton. “I, like so many people across the institution today, am deeply saddened to hear of her passing. I’ll remember her for her kind and gentle nature and her constant willingness to help.”
