Known as Canada's favourite four-season playground, Kelowna is the largest city in B.C.'s Okanagan Valley and boasts all the amenities of a major city. Nestled between two mountain ranges and along the shores of the beautiful Okanagan Lake, Kelowna offers warm summers and gentle winters, and the perfect blend of urban and outdoor lifestyle.
A few reasons to live, work and study in Kelowna:
Students in the Tourism Management program might participate in a co-op work term in the summer between years 1 and 2. The co-op work term is 12-16 weeks of paid employment. Each student will be provided with supports to help them develop their own unique job search. Working with a co-op coordinator, they will refresh their resume and cover letter, connecting with industry employers. A co-op work term provides the opportunity to gain paid Canadian work experience in your chosen industry before graduation, whether seeking a position in adventure tourism, hospitality service or resort management the program allows students to explore what the tourism industry has to offer.
Some co-op employment examples may include:
The world of tourism requires talented and passionate individuals with a broad understanding of the complex, interdisciplinary nature of the industry and its ability to thrive within communities and the global marketplace. The Tourism Management Diploma provides students with an overview of the tourism industry along with management skills for this diverse and integrated industry. The program includes courses that address tourism and business management functions as well as providing opportunities to network and build connections within the sector. A faculty-supervised tourism sector study course allows students to engage in experiential learning within the tourism community and there is also the option to complete a co-op term. Core themes include tourism and hospitality operations, sustainability, service management, marketing, and industry diversity. Upon graduation, students are well-suited for supervisory or front-line management positions in tourism and hospitality.
