Education Council Byelection - Faculty - Health & Social Development Representative (Elected by Acclamation)

Andrea Thiessen

I have been involved in post-secondary education for over 15 years, and I feel strongly connected to our work here at OC. In my current role as the ECE Chair, I support students from the intake through practicum completion process, working closely with colleagues across departments to keep processes organized, responsive, and centred on student success. I care deeply about creating clear systems and open communication with integrity, so students and instructors feel supported.

With additional experience within non-profit organizations, as well as in administration (Principal) within the BC K-12 Independent Schools sector, I have developed a strong foundation in governance, strategic planning, policy development, and collaborative decision-making. I have worked closely with boards and leadership teams, which helped me understand how thoughtful governance strengthens programs, supports long-term sustainability, and provides accountability check points.

I would value the opportunity to contribute to the OC EDCO because I believe collaborative cross-departmental oversight matters in shaping academic direction and policy. I bring practical experience and an understanding of the relevance of accountable systems. Most importantly, I bring a genuine commitment to the quality and integrity of our programs and to ensuring decisions reflect the needs of both students and instructors.
