Chef fills the community with pie-shaped support
An instructor with OC Culinary Arts has taken a slice of his time to help the Central Okanagan Food Bank with a sweet and savoury fundraiser this fall.
Bake the World a Better Place is a holiday pie fundraiser created with 21 of the Okanagan’s finest chefs and bakers, because joyful experiences are what everyone needs during the holiday season.
An array of pies will be made just in time for Thanksgiving weekend, and 100 per cent of proceeds will go to the food bank.
Chef Mike Barillaro is making a Jack Daniel's pecan pie with chocolate ganache.
“Last year we made a tourtiere for the fundraiser, and it was very popular,” says Barillaro. “This is a great way to give back to the community and help the food bank at the same time.”
Limited quantities are available. Once a pie sells out, a select few will go to auction (Oct. 1 to 5) featuring a high-end Lodge brand dual-handled skillet from Lakehouse Homestore.
If you prefer to roll with your own baking, then the Central Okanagan Food Bank has you covered like a lattice top: Bake the World a Better Place cookbooks from 2021 and a box set with the 2020 and 2021 recipes are available.
