MAC & Chromebook computers are not supported in our programs, as we have issues with some of the software and learning platforms we use in the courses. Note: There may be parallel software that would allow some programs to work properly on a Mac, however the college does not provide IT supports to assist with this.
A PC or laptop with a recent version of Windows is recommended.
Stable internet connection is required.
We highly recommend the following equipment:
A dual monitor for maximum efficiency when working with digital textbooks & learning platforms
Plug-in or wireless keyboards are strongly recommended for those using laptops
A number keypad (Bluetooth/wired) if you are using a laptop or keyboard that does not have one (similar to Eg: Numeric Keypad)
Contact oadm@okanagan.bc.ca for more details
Minimum passing grade per course is 70%. Students must pass all courses and the practicum to receive a certificate.

The following schedule planning tool is a spreadsheet that shows all the courses in the program in the recommended order you take them following the prerequisite requirements, the length of the course, the maximum amount of time you have to complete that course once you start it, and you can use this to plan your weekly hours and course progression through the program. If you are a funded student (e.g. Work BC) it is strongly recommended that you work with an advisor BEFORE YOU APPLY to build a schedule that meets your needs.

The academic year runs from September to August and is broken down into three semesters: Fall, Winter, and Summer:
- Winter Semester – Jan, Feb, Mar
- Summer Semester – Apr, May, Jun, July, Aug
- Fall Semester – Sept, Oct, Nov
Distance education is self-directed, and courses are offered monthly. Courses start on the first Monday of the month. Each course will still have a specified number of hours/weeks to follow and a course specific schedule for assignment/quiz due dates. You can work ahead, but not behind the course-specific schedule.
Registration for monthly courses typically opens two weeks before the first Monday of the month when the courses start and remains open for one week afterward for late registration. You may only register in the open registration period.
The maximum number of courses you can be enrolled in at one time is 5 courses. No course will be full or waitlisted, so you don’t have to worry about not getting in. You can use a schedule planner spreadsheet to map out your program schedule.
As soon as you register for a course or courses you will pay for those courses. Only register for courses you are going to take each month.
How-to Guide for registering courses (these sheets also include a cost per course breakdown):

If you are working with Work BC or other funding, please read the information on the distance education delivery provided above. Typically Work BC requires that a program be completed in 52 weeks. Given the length of courses, prerequisite requirements, and monthly registration windows, in order to complete the program in 52 weeks, you must connect with the OADM department or an advisor BEFORE YOU APPLY to receive a suggested schedule for you to follow. The schedule will provide you with a start and end date for your program.
Please note to complete the program in 52 weeks, you will need to work ahead in courses. Most students require at least one year to successfully complete the Bookkeeping/Accounting Technician programs by distance.
To connect with an advisor to discuss a suggested schedule, you can contact the department by email at oadm@okanagan.bc.ca.
