The Human Firewall
Security tools cannot prevent every threat. Cybersecurity also depends on the decisions we make when something unexpected or unusual happens.
This is the idea behind the human firewall: students, faculty, and employees working alongside technical safeguards to strengthen Okanagan College’s security through simple, everyday actions:
- Pause before acting
- Verify unexpected requests through a trusted channel
- Protect sensitive information
- Question anything that seems unusual
- Report suspicious activity promptly
Specific threats will come and go, but good judgment never goes out of style. By staying informed, thinking critically, and remaining alert, each of us can help protect the Okanagan College community. If you need to verify or report any suspicious cyber activity, please email us at itsecurity@okanagan.bc.ca
Staying Secure Beyond October
Cybersecurity Awareness Month may be ending, but staying secure is a year-round responsibility. Our strongest defence is not a single password, product, or piece of technology. It is the collective awareness of people who pause before they click, share, approve, or respond.
Vigilant people will always be one of our strongest defences.
Thank you for helping make Okanagan College a safer and more secure community.
