Housing challenges are complex, and solutions don’t always look the way we expect. Informal and community-built housing, often overlooked or misunderstood can offer important insights into how communities respond to exclusion and unmet housing needs, alongside more conventional social housing models.
As part of the Okanagan College (OC) Faculty Speaker Series, Dr. Pegah Behroozi Nobar, urban scholar, housing justice researcher and OC instructor will present Self-built settlement as an alternative to social housing.
Drawing on global case studies and interdisciplinary research in Iran, Dr. Behroozi Nobar will share how self-built settlements emerge and function, and what they reveal about housing justice and urban inequality. This lecture is part of the Faculty Speaker Series, organized through the Arts and Foundational Programs portfolio.
12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m., discussion until 1:30 p.m.
