This notice is shared and the Okanagan College flag will be lowered at the Penticton campus in honour of Dr. Nancy Telford, an OC Chemistry Professor who passed away recently.
Dr. Telford began her career at OC in the Chemistry Department in August of 2019. She has instructed a variety of courses including General Chemistry, Chemistry for Water Engineering Technology, and Forensic Science, and has been a strong community advocate for science programming in Penticton.
“We were deeply saddened to hear of Nancy’s passing and our thoughts and condolences go out to Nancy’s family, friends, colleagues and students who are grieving,” said Rick Federley, Interim Dean of Science and Technology. “Nancy’s passion for chemistry and for teaching was obvious to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. She was highly dedicated to her students and supporting the science community in Penticton.”
Prior to joining Okanagan College, Dr. Telford served as an Assistant Professor at the Division of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Alberta. She also routinely contributed to the success of many local students though offering math and science tutoring services. Dr. Telford also served as a volunteer for almost two decades for the KISU Swim Club in Penticton, fulfilling multiple roles ranging from officiating at events, to serving as the club President.
Federley added “although Nancy had only recently joined OC, the immediate relationships she formed with faculty and staff made it feel as though we had been working with her for many years. Her impact to the college atmosphere was immense and she will be deeply missed."
