Flags have been lowered and this notice is shared in memory of David Dutcher, a former welding instructor who passed away recently.
David began his career at Okanagan College in October 2001 and he retired in March 2022. David completed his welding training at Okanagan College; after graduation he became a tutor and would go on to become an instructor. During his time with OC, he taught in Kelowna, Salmon Arm and Vernon.
He is recalled as a dedicated instructor who was committed to passing on his knowledge and skills, and to helping his students be successful as they pursued a career in the trade he loved.
“This is a shock for all of us in the welding department. David was a good friend and colleague. David was quite creative and made many different welding critters and gave them out to the staff in the trades office, putting a smile on many faces. We will remember David for his love of AC/DC which was playing in the office when he was at his computer, his collection of pinball machines, his hockey card collection, his Barracuda, and his love for animals. With his upcoming retirement, David was looking forward to spending time with his family and grandkids. The last time I spoke with David we were making plans to go fishing. We were fortunate to have had David in our lives,” said Sean Jarvis, Welding Trades Department Chair.
Memorial arrangements are not known at this time.
