Volunteers wanted! Support BC Lions games and festival in Kelowna
When the BC Lions play two regular season CFL games in Kelowna this summer, a team of volunteers will be required to support the games and the weeklong Touchdown Kelowna festival June 26 to July 4, a partnership between the City of Kelowna and the BC Lions, along with presenting sponsor Okanagan College.
“We are looking for people who want to jump on board to support this historic sporting event for the City of Kelowna,” said Kevin Parnell, Associate Director at Okanagan College and Touchdown Kelowna volunteer director. “Having regular season CFL games in Kelowna is going to be incredible and to be able to work the games and the festival in a volunteer role will be a tremendous experience for everyone involved. I know Kelowna has great volunteer spirit and I look forward to building the volunteer team to help support this event.”
Volunteers will receive a volunteer recognition package that includes a choice of tickets to a BC Lions Game on Sept. 12 at BC Place or to the Boots on the Beach concert on July 3. Volunteers will also get exclusive access to a private BC Lions practice during Touchdown Kelowna, meet players, and receive a commemorative bucket hat and pin.
Volunteers can create an account and sign up to be part of the team here.
For the first time ever, the BC Lions will host regular season CFL games in Kelowna against the Calgary Stampeders on June 27 and the Edmonton Elks on July 3. The games will be played at a renovated Apple Bowl with temporary seating to accommodate some 17,000 fans.
The Touchdown Kelowna Festival takes place from June 26 to July 4, beginning with a kick-off concert by Canadian folk legend Alan Doyle on June 26, followed by the Flip Flop Gala on June 29 and the Boots on the Beach concert featuring country rockers The Road Hammers on July 3. Other Fanfest events include Breakfast with the Lions, Canada Day, a Fan March, and daily activities at Waterfront Park and throughout downtown Kelowna.
Up to 300 volunteers are needed in many areas of the games and festival to fill roles like hosts, ushers, ticket scanners, parking assistants, site crew, support staff, festival workers and more.
The volunteer drive is led by Touchdown Kelowna presenting sponsor Okanagan College. To sign up for a volunteer position, register at this link.
