Salmon Arm campus collaborations
The Salmon Arm campus is proud to highlight its community connections throughout the region and beyond. The range of organizations the Salmon Arm campus works with is very diverse, spanning school districts to industry to Indigenous communities, on top of government mandated additions to programming. Over 30% of programming being offered over the winter are the direct results of these collaborations.
Intakes sparked through regularly working with partners to identify community needs:
- Gateway to Tech (School District 83)
- Office Assistant (Neskonlith)
- Construction Craft Worker (BCIC)
- Indigenous Tourism (Indigenous Tourism BC)
- Project Management (Lillootte)
- Digital Marketing (Salmon Arm Ec-Dev Society)
- Education Assistant (Adams Lake Indian Band)
These contracts represent significant revenue for the region totaling $609,000.
Knowing that projects such as these benefit both the community and OC, the Salmon Arm team is always finding ways to connect with organizations and showcase all that the campus has to offer. Examples include:
- Hosting community events like the Candlelight Vigil on Dec. 6, a potluck for the Food Action Society as a kickoff for their Coldest Night of the Year walk/event, our Thrift for Charity event that was open to the public and numerous meetings, AGMs for societies in town, and more. We love sharing our small campus with a big heart.
- In January, the Student, Graduate and Co-op Employment team hosted the first lunch and learn of the year with the Chamber of Commerce.
- Audience specific presentations and meetings. Recently a group of staff, faculty and leadership went to Salmon Arm Secondary for a staff meeting where we were able to have an engaging conversation about trends they are seeing at the secondary level. These trends may be of interest to others working in post-secondary. Specifically, the conversation was around transition data which shows SD83 is seeing a decline in transfer to post-secondary. Provincially the immediate entry transition rate is 50.5% vs. SD83’s 39 per cent, which is down from 47% in 17/18. The long-term transition rate is 79%.
