New website now live
If we could cut a digital ribbon, we would: the new Okanagan College website has been launched at www.okanagan.bc.ca.
Today’s project milestone is a culmination of two years of change: cutting-edge server infrastructure, testing and production environments, new open-source content management system, revamped site navigation, robust search capabilities and mobile responsive layouts, all wrapped up in a refreshed and modern design.
Based on guidance from a Website Redevelopment Steering Committee, the new site focuses on the prospective student audience: ensuring that high school students, mature learners and anyone considering training can easily navigate the site and find answers to their questions. A critical feature of this site is accessibility: Okanagan College is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible and usable for everyone. To meet this commitment, OC has designed the website to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 AA standard by December 2020.
Bugs and changes
Launching a new system always yields bugs and kinks that need to be worked out. Please submit changes to your department’s Web Project contact person. They should submit changes via Website Service Request here.
IT and Public Affairs appreciates everyone’s patience as these items are addressed.
Training
We understand that web editors are eager to learn Drupal, the new content management system. The training is in development and Public Affairs will communicate out more information to users as soon as possible.
For all website users, check out College Matters and Inside OC for “Website Top Tips” in coming weeks that will explain functionality on the new site – making your website experience as fast and efficient as possible!
Thank you
Lastly, to everyone involved in the project from the Website Steering Committee, department contacts, content contributors, website super builders, design team, IT developers and PA content builders: thanks go to all of you for your time and effort.
