Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the Central Okanagan in the past week, Interior Health has announced that effective midnight on Wednesday, July 28, masks will once again be mandatory in all indoor public settings in Kelowna, West Kelowna, Westbank First Nation, Peachland and Lake Country.

The mandate applies to all people 12 and older and will be in effect until further notice.

At Okanagan College, this means students, employees and visitors entering facilities on the Kelowna campus, Kelowna Airport AME training facility and Kelowna Innovation Centre will be required to wear a mask while in indoor public settings. Please follow all posted signage at OC facilities, complete your personal daily health check and avoid coming to campus if you are feeling ill.

Additionally, Interior Health Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Sue Pollock said non-essential travel into and out of the Central Okanagan is now discouraged for people who are not immunized, while public health is also recommending large gatherings take place outdoors.

Dr. Pollock also stated that for Central Okanagan residents, the minimal interval between the two doses of vaccines will be reduced to 28 days, to encourage residents to become fully vaccinated. All OC community members who are eligible to be vaccinated are strongly encouraged to register for your shot, find drop-in clinics and community vaccination opportunities and learn more on Interior Health’s COVID-19/Vaccination Information page.
