Intro to Community Radio
This introductory course provides an overview of community radio, the role it plays in media, and fundamental interviewing techniques.
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the role and impact of community radio.
- Explain the roles of the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA) and the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
- List the policies and regulations that govern community radio operations in Canada.
- Describe spoken word and music content regulations for community radio.
Creating a Radio Show
This course continues to explore the responsibilities of a radio host, including ethical considerations, propose new program ideas and produce original content for broadcasting.
Learning Outcomes:
- Explain the responsibilities of a radio host in accordance with the Journalism Code of Ethics.
- Explain SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada) regulations and copyright infringement risks in radio broadcasting.
- Apply effective interview techniques to create dynamic and engaging conversations.
- List elements of well-structured scripts and proposals for radio programming
- Compare and operate different field recording tools, including handheld microphones and cell phone recorders.
Introduction to Photography: Discover your Camera
Join us as we explore apertures, shutter speed, ISO and different features and settings on your camera. Discover what these features can do to improve the quality of the pictures you take. Start to use your camera to its full potential. What to bring to class: d-SLR or mirrorless camera, any additional lenses, extra batteries or fully charged batteries, memory card, owner's manual and all your questions.
The next step in Photography: Exploring Functionality
Abandon auto mode and embrace the M! Set your creativity free with an immersive exploration of photography's core elements: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Through hands-on exercises you'll explore light, shooting at night, and capturing motion. Bring your DSLR or mirrorless camera, interchangeable lenses, charged batteries, memory card and manual. For an engaging session, cameras should offer full manual control.
