Okanagan College students who are Canadian or have Canadian Permanent Resident Status (i.e. Domestic students) enrolled in degree, diploma or certificate programs that are taking a minimum of two courses per semester and are in a good academic standing are eligible to participate.

International OC students enrolled in degree, diploma or certificate programs that are taking a minimum of three courses per semester and are in good academic standing are eligible to participate. Please note: If an International OC student is in the last semester of study with less than three (3) courses remaining, there may be an exception to the three (3) courses minimum.

During the Summer term (May - August), Domestic and International students must have been enrolled as described above and have intent to return to OC in the next Fall term.

Priority will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

There are approximately 300 students employed annually in a variety of jobs including Research Assistants, Success Centre Learning Assistants, Peer Mentors, Recreation Facility Assistants, and Computer Lab Monitors.  

Students are encouraged to apply for positions as soon as they see them posted. Supervisors want to make sure they have people hired to start right away at the beginning of each semester, so don’t wait.

Review job postings. Remember, you need to complete all employment paperwork in order for you to start work and get paid, including accepting your offer of employment. Most communications will come from an etrieve@okanagan.bc.ca email address.

You will become an OC student employee, subject to all regulations and procedures related to student employment. 

Students can work a maximum of 20 hours per week during the September – December and January – April terms. During the May – August term, students can work a maximum of 35 hours per week. The maximums are for all student jobs combined, so please make sure you are not working more than allowed. This includes Student Works and IT Services Monitor positions combined.

You and your supervisor must complete a bi-weekly timesheet. Timesheets are completed through the etrieve system. It is important to always get your timesheet in on time. You will be paid bi-weekly by direct deposit. 

Your supervisor will share instructions on how to complete timesheets which will include timesheet deadlines. It is recommended that you submit your timesheet 1-2 days prior to the deadline in order for all parties to review and approve your timesheet in time for the deadline.

If you would like to repost your position to recruit new students for the Winter term, please reach out to the OC StudentWorks Coordinator (jmcgee@okanagan.bc.ca) and we will ensure your position is posted again in August, although this is not mandatory.

New OC StudentWorks appointments must be created each term. If you have received funding for both Summer and Winter terms, you are able to re-hire your students to continue their work on your project. Contact the OC StudentWorks Coordinator (jmcgee@okanagan.bc.ca).

Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that hours submitted by OC StudentWorks students do not exceed the total hours that were approved for funding and the total weekly maximum of 20 hours.

Students will be paid as per the payroll schedule. Hours must be submitted and approved in order to meet payroll deadlines.
