Tina Light: Poem and Biography

Tina Light (she/her) is located in the Okanagan Valley and is a self professed eco-poet. In her writing she focuses on reciprocity and humans’ relationship with nature.

Each of her poems is written with the intent of recreating the original aha moment  for the reader and opening their eyes to the wonder and transformational power of the natural world.

In 2021 she graduated from St. Stephen’s University with a degree in English Literature and International Studies. She is currently enrolled in OC’s Writing and Publishing Program.

Do you remember that day with the frozen snakes?
and the circling turkey vultures,
their wings heavy at our backs?

And the lightness of blue
that stretched ever onward

We planted our hammocks
in the arms of the mountain
to read under the canopy of
spring trees and laughed

For what was there to worry about?
cradled as we were,
beneath that sky

Sacha Alfonzo V.: Image and Biography

Garbage cans that is turned into an art piece

After attending Okanagan College, Sacha Alfonzo V. earned a BA in Sociology from the University of British Columbia and is currently pursuing her MA in Criminology at University of Ottawa, where her SSHRC-funded research focuses on amplifying silenced voices and examining the intricate connections between creative expression and social justice.

This image comes from her project, “Casey and Finnegan Escape Oblivion at the CBC: A Case for Rogue Archivism and Piracy,” which investigates how the lack of formal archival processes for Canada’s audio-visual cultural artefacts inadvertently encourages the proliferation of what Hito Steyerl refers to as “poor images,” lo-fi and/or pirated materials that are collected and illicitly trafficked by rogue archivists.

She is grateful to live, work, and study on the traditional and unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinabeg People.
